**New telephone numbers from 22/01/2020**
We are installing a new telephone system that will help us meet the needs of our patients for the next 10-15 years. The new system will enable us to automatically route certain calls to keep the main incoming lines as available as possible and will also allow us to record and review calls for monitoring and staff training.

Language Line & Sign Language
Language (Translation) Line and British Sign Language (BSL) services are available to our patients during our opening hours.
You may request a face to face translation for clinical needs, a telephone translation or Bristish Sign Language.
You can either book a BSL interpreter by heading to this website or you can let our reception team know and they will book an appropriate service for you.

Attendance of GP & Nurse appointments

Phase 4 Electronic Prescriptions
NHS Digital are introducing a new phase in Electronic Prescriptions. From February 2020, patients without a nominated pharmacy will be given an electronic token (also known as a 'printed paper copy') at the GP Practice. The token will be given to patients (or their representative) and can be taken to any pharmacy in england. To read more, please click here.

The NHS has published figures that rank Preston’s GP surgeries based on overall patient experience. The information is available on the NHS GP Patient Survey website, and is based on responses provided by patients in the annual survey that is sent to more than one million adults who are registered with a GP in England. New Social Media techniques used to boost cancer screenings!
Hundreds of practice's across the country have been taught how social media can improve health thanks to the success of one of NHS Digital’s Widening Digital Participation projects. From 1st November 2019, the surgery can no longer provide certain Travel Vaccinations. Please read this leaflet for more information on the services we can/cannot provide and who provides vaccinations that aren't provided by the NHS.

No Faxes - 1st November 2019
From 1st November 2019 as per changes to the GP contract, we will no longer have access to Fax machines for NHS work or patient correspondence. We ask that any information is sent via E-mail or post.

Controlled Drugs (CDs)
As a practice, we have decided that since Controlled Drugs can now go via the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) we will now start sending your Controlled Drug to a nominated pharmacy of your choice. This is the most efficient and safest way of dealing with your medication.
Please contact the surgery with your most preferred pharmacy for us to send your medication to.
You can also change your nominated pharmacy via your online access log in.
Gabapentin and Pregablin changes
From 1st April 2019, Gabapentin and Pregablin will be reclassified as a Controlled drug.
What does this mean for you?
- You are still able to receive the items for legitimate use on prescription, but there will be stronger controls in place.
- The items will no longer be able to go on repeat dispensing or be given to you for more than 28 days.

Transport from Royal Preston Hospital to Chorley Hospital
If you have trouble getting to Chorley Hospital for certain appointments, please note that there is a shuttle bus service that travels between Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley Hospital during weekdays.

Important changes to Prescribing
It has been decided by the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) that From 5 December 2016 the funding of certain types of medicines or treatments that are readily available ‘over the counter’ in pharmacies or on the shelves in shops and supermarkets will stop. This means your GP will no longer be able to prescribe these (exceptions apply)
The types of medicines and treatments that fall into this category include:
- Treatments for minor ailments, including medicines like paracetamol, ibuprofen, head lice lotion and indigestion tablets.
- Treatments where there is little evidence that they have a real clinical benefit, including cough syrups, nasal congestion sprays, sore throat products and vitamin supplements.

The CCG has decided to stop Gluten Free Food Products on Prescription. Patients will be expected to purchase these foods if required. We advise that such Patients maintain a healthy gluten-free diet.

Family & Friends Test
The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is an important feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience. It asks people if they would recommend the services they have used and offers a range of responses. When combined with supplementary follow-up questions, the FFT provides a mechanism to highlight both good and poor patient experience. This kind of feedback is vital in transforming NHS services and supporting patient choice. The FFT has just become available to many additional patients, going live in 8000 GP practices across England. From January 2015 it will roll out to mental health and community health services and from 1 April 2015, it will be expanded to NHS dental practices, ambulance services, patient transport services, acute hospitals outpatients and day cases. The feedback gathered through the FFT is being used in NHS organisations across the country to stimulate local improvement and empower staff to carry out the sorts of changes that make a real difference to patients and their care. While the results will not be statistically comparable against other organisations because of the various data collection methods, FFT will continue to provide a broad measure of patient experience that can be used alongside other data to inform service improvement and patient choice.

The NHS is changing and services are being restructured. These reforms will impact upon the way that clinical data are collected, shared and analysed. Under the powers of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 (HSCA), the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) can, under certain circumstances, require Personal Confidential Data (PCD) from GP practices without seeking patient consent. One of the first initiatives using these new powers is the care.data service.
